I see we’re all talking about Disney and Death Sentence. Sounds like he really jumped the shark with this stunt! Over played his hand as the deeply unpopular jerk who slipped into the Governor’s Mansion by a few thousand votes using a racist ad campaign, caused untold death and misery to citizens of Florida as he politicized Covid, bans books, targets the LGBTQ community in his state and calls teachers pedophiles and groomers. And now he’s attacking a venerated Florida institution that arguably—along with air conditioning--transformed Florida from a bunch of bug infested swampland into the Magical Kingdom of Tourism it has become. He’s doomed, right? Just what I was thinking too. “It Was a Distraction" Until I caught this very sharp lady on the Michelangelo Signorile show on Sirius yesterday. They buried the lede in this tweet. She says it right up front. “It was a distraction.” Have a listen and you tell me if this was a move against Disney and not a move against our democracy.
Death Sentence: Watch the Mouse not the Rat In another voice vote in the same session, while we all collectively freaked triumphant on the Disney story, the Florida House passed Death Sentence’s ridiculous 20-8 gerrymander which now goes to the governor’s desk for his signature. This perennial 51-49 voting state will now have a 20-8 US House delegation and no one is going to stop this in time for the November election. Death Sentence just enabled a likely 4 seat swing (2 less for us 2 more for them) in the US House to the Fascist Party of the US and we’re all talking about Disney while SUPPORTING the right of a huge corporation to essentially operate with government powers. Yikes. What a twofer for this “moron.”
Could that four seat swing be the deciding margin by which the fascists take control of the US House? All thanks to the Mouse distraction? And all the horrible things that go with it? Be nice if some of those 20 didn’t vote as expected. And it’ll be interesting to see to whom Disney writes its checks in the coming months. “Unfortunate” Said former Republican Florida Governor Charlie Crist who hopes to replace Death Sentence as the next Democratic Governor from Florida.
